PGCS'09

Aims and Scope

The aim of this Workshop is to promote bilateral co-operation in research related to theoretical and applied Computer Science. Despite favorable conditions for financing such projects by, e.g., the Ministry of Science and Higher Education (MNiSzW) on the Polish side and the German Research Foundation (DFG) on the German side, few bilateral projects are running today. This circumstance is especially unfortunate for Computer Science, where intensive high quality research is conducted in both countries.

It seems that two reasons could be mainly responsible for the present state. Firstly, the research communities might be not quite acquainted with the work done in the neighboring country. Secondly, the awareness of the available financing channels might be insufficient on both sides.

The kick-off meeting in Krakow is supposed to mitigate both deficiencies. Its participants are mainly leaders of research teams that either already co-operate with their partners in Poland or Germany or are interested to launch such co-operation. They will present the topics and results of their research. The Workshop is an accompanying event of the International Joint Conference on Intelligent Information Systems (IIS 2009). Attendance at the Workshop is free of charge and all participants of the IIS 2009 are invited to take part it. On the other hand, the researchers invited to the Workshop are encouraged to attend the whole IIS 2009. This way new personal contacts and new ideas of joint research may be established.

The representatives of financing agencies will present the present state-of-art in applying for bilateral research projects. A general discussion on priorities and future perspectives of Polish-German co-operation in Computer Science is also included into the program of the meeting. A decision regarding possible continuation of such workshops will also be taken.

The extended abstracts of papers presented during the Workshop will be made available during the meeting. The authors of best presentations will be encouraged to submit full papers to a special issue of the Bulletin of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Technical Sciences.
